Vandal By Design is a design and art studio showcasing the work of René Garcia, a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist with a foundation in graphic design. Garcia’s practice encompasses airbrushing, oil painting, acrylics, illustration, murals, and photography, reflecting a dynamic fusion of techniques and influences.
Rooted in his Indigenous Zapotec background, Garcia’s work explores themes of adaptation, juxtaposition, resistance, and cultural resilience. His creative approach is influenced by the visual language of graffiti, street elements, Zapotec culture and Rasquachismo design—a DIY aesthetic born from necessity and defiance. His artistic vision is also shaped by his travels, where he finds inspiration in urban landscapes, vintage signage, found objects, repetition, and the functionality of everyday materials.
Through Vandal By Design, Garcia produces both personal and commissioned works, navigating the intersections of tradition and contemporary expression. His art reclaims and reinterprets symbols of decay and transformation, offering a powerful reflection on his indigenous identity, survival, and artistic interpretations.
